Let’s see.  We have a question asked in a civil suit that has been settled, that was based on discovery based on illegally recorded tapes by a pentagon employee who was discussing confidential information with another pentagon employee, and was recording this for the purpose of publishing a book which she fully hoped would destroy the Clinton presidency. The question, which was carefully negotiated between the Clinton lawyers and the Paula Jones lawyers, was carefully worded so that he could say "no I did not do that", the jury was aware of the negotiations, the judge was aware of the negotiations, and the negotiation process itself was an admission of exactly what he had done. The final question was "did the deponent have direct contact with the other person’s [genetalia, breasts..] for the purpose of sexually arousing her. At the time Clinton answered the question, the thought that Lewinski was always wearing panties.  Lewinski, after extensive questioning, remembered an incident when is finger may have actually slipped under the panties. So the issue before the Congress, which will now require a special session of the congress, will be:    Did Clinton know that he reached past the panties and intentionally lie,    or did he know that his finger slipped, and he was intentionally lying. Then, the committe didn’t pass a unanimous vertict, not even a substantial majority (better that 2/3). I’m sure that the American people really care! Personally, I am a registered Republican.  I would love to see Clinton impeached for legitimate violations of the constitutional rights of several different segments of the population, including non-custodial parents who have been jailed, held without bond, and even put into solitary confinement, beaten, or even killed, without "due process of law".  I’m also realistic enough to know that it isn’t going to happen. It’s rediculous that after $40 million in investigation, the ONLY impeachable offenses that they could come up with against Clinton was that he lied about whether she was wearing panties or not.  They dug into Whitewater and came up with nothing.  The dug into Filegate and came up with nothing.  They even dug into Vince Foster’s death, and came up with nothing.  They couldn’t even find women to testify against Clinton that he was sexually harassing them. Even Betty Curry wasn’t real enthusiastic about telling the Grand Jury that Clinton goosed her. Paula Jones got her 800,000 (plus Abe’s money?), a make-over, and streight teeth, the Rutheford Institute forwarded their moralistic agenda, and the Republicans got and blew a political advantage.  I seriously doubt that any jury would have even awarded triple damages that were that high. Monica Lewinski has done even better, clinching modelling contracts, book and movie rights, and some really great paying talk-show interviews.  She didn’t get the guy she wanted, but once he’s out of office, she won’t want him anyway. Clinton is a letch.  How he ever got elected in the first place is a mystery, but he did.  He probably did more for the Republican party than any president since Abe Lincoln.  The Republicans gained control of the house and senate, they were able to pass sweeping reforms of the entitlement programs without substantial resistance from Clinton (even though his party opposed it). If this is nothing more than an act of revenge against Hillary Clinton for her part in the Watergate process, then it’s a serious mistake. With 66% of the electorate opposing impeachment.  Each Republican will now be confronted with trying to justify a vote to impeach to a constituancy that will be reminded of it in every major election between now and 2000. Even those who dislike Clinton, who don’t agree with what he did, who feel that he should have been punished for all of his groping and dirty deals and shady friends, have an issue with the process. The entire process has resulted in a circus that has caused chaos among foreign and domestic governments and financial systems.  Clinton isn’t going to resign.  The Senate isn’t going to get the 2/3 vote required to remove him from office, and history will remember the entire process as a farce, with the Republicans as the brunt of the joke. Of the 6 Presidents that didn’t have affairs while in office, Reagan was married to his second wife (he was having an affair with Nancy while married to Betty), Harrison died after 6 days in office (most of it sick with the flu), and the others have equally interesting circumstances. In previous administrations, no one dared discuss the presidential mistriss.  In some cases, it was more like a parade (Kennedy).  And LBJ claimed that he did more women by accident than Kennedy did on purpose. Ike had his chouffer – normally an enlistee’s position – as a mistriss. According to the testimony given by the Army and Navy experts, we should posthumously Impeach Eisenhower. Ultimately, each Republican member of the house must ask himself if it is worth it to have the entire country, and the global economy, in a shambles, while they try to discretely make a case for "He reached under her panties and he knew it". — Rex Ballard – Open Source Advocate, Internet Architect, MIS Director http://www.open4success.com
