They're gone… :(

Question:

I finally gathered the courage needed and dropped the kittens at the Humane Society this morning. Tom was very sad when he said good-bye to our little foster babies. They were with us for almost 8 weeks, and managed to steal our hearts in no time. We will miss them dearly and only take comfort in knowing that we did a good thing and gave them a chance at having a happy kittenhood. Tom doesn’t want to foster again and I don’t think I blame him. It hurts to say good-bye. Maybe time will change his mind, we’ll see. In the meantime, please purr for these kittens, and all the other kittens at shelters all over the world, that they may find a happy forever home soon. Regards. Victor Victor M. <<<hugs Tom and Victor for your grief at seeing your fosters go back to be adopted.  I can understand Tom’s reluctance to foster again for a while.  I felt the same after we took Penny’s offspring to the shelter to be adopted out.  Give yourself both time to recover and you may feel like fostering again.  I know we’d be interested if we didn’t have so many of our own, with three of them being special needs kitties. Purrs, headbutts and good wishes for those and all kittens and cats to find their own forever homes. Pam, Rob, and the NC nine

Response:

Sorry that it upset you so much to let them go. Will you get to visit them or check on their progress at their new homes?

I know it’s hard on you and that’s probably one reason we don’t foster.  We get so d*mned attached to every kitty we have.  Purrs for you and Tom, tho, as you have done a wonderful, caring thing for the little ones.  I hope and pray that all the homeless kitties in the world find their humans…  I drive by our local shelter every morning from work and I utter a little silent one for all of them…. I could never foster kittens. I’d wind up keeping them. I can certainly feel your heartache for the little furbabies. But thanks to you, they will live long, and largely unproductive lives, except to make somebody very, very happy you went to all of the trouble to save them. Whoever adopts them likely won’t know, but you will, of course. Which brings to mind one of my favorite saying about cats: How you behave towards cats here below determines your status in Heaven. Robert Heinlein I think your place is assured. Bless you. I rescued and rehomed 2 stray cats many years ago; I still think about them all of the time. Purrs for all kittens and cats, waiting for their onetruhome, and that giving up these kittens won’t weigh on you for too awfully long. Life without cats would be only marginally worth living. Purrs for you and Tom for your kindness in giving these babies a great start in the world.  I think fostering is very worthwhile but very hard to do. Good for you both. I still think about the fosteer cats, and wonder where they all are. Some I think about more than others. One especially. Those little ones are gonna live in your heart for a long time. Sherry

We are sending purrs to you and Tom – I admire you for fostering, but don’t think I could do it myself, for this very reason.  I hope that knowing the babies are headed for their onetruehomes eases your missing them very soon. —— Krista

Response:

Oh, I bet that must have been so sad for you!  Will you find out when they get adopted?  That would be nice, at least you’d know that they are in good homes.  Hugs and purrs, — Britta Check out pictures of Vino at: http://photos.yahoo.com/badwilson click on Vino and "friends" album – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – I finally gathered the courage needed and dropped the kittens at the Humane Society this morning. Response:

Gosh, is it really nearly eight weeks since you took the kittens in ? My, how time flies.

I agree, how can it be eight weeks already.  Sorry it’s so hard for you  and many purrs for your heavy hearts.  Bless you for taking these babies in for a short while and giving them such a good start.  Jennie, Xena and Callisto

Response:

aw, Victor <hugs I think that is the main reason I won’t go into fostering. I’m afraid I will fall in love with the babies and not want to give them up, even the adult ones. Give yourself a little time, you and Tom might find the energy to do it again. At least think of it as giving the furbabies a good start in life. Gosh, is it really nearly eight weeks since you took the kittens in ? My, how time flies.  I hope you will soon hear that your furkids have found their perfect homes so that instead of sadness, you can feel great joy. In the meantime, lots of love and hugs to you and Tom Sheenah

Response:

We have felt the pain of loss, but always from departure to RB of our loved ones; have never fostered anyone…..when a cat appeared to need our home for the rest of its life we never worried that some day he’d leave for the Bridge. All the tears shed here have been for losing old cats when they are called by the RB. You fellas must feel something like that kind of pain, but at least you have hope, and he Bridge is not an absolute. Folks like you – foster parents – must get a special welcome at the other side of RB. God bless you both for your kindness.
